Brown Advisory Appoints Three International Advisory Board Members

Brown Advisory, the investment management firm which oversees more than $135 billion in client assets, has made three new senior appointments to its international advisory board, it said in a statement late last week. Sian Westerman, Jasmine Whitbread and Sir Robin Niblett bring considerable board-level, corporate, investment, governance and multi-national business experience to their positions, it said. Westerman was an investment banker at Rothschild & Co, where she spent a considerable part of her career advising corporates and private equity on mergers, acquisitions and disposals. She remains a senior advisor at Rothschild & Co, helping to further the objectives of worldwide clients in the UK and Asia-Pacific countries. Westerman was a trustee of the Royal Academy of Arts for a 10-year term ending in September 2023 and continues to serve on their corporate advisory board. She is also a trustee of the Barbican Centre Trust, a board member of the British Fashion Council, chair of Strathberry Holdings Limited and non-executive director of ASC Regenity, the company operating Augustinus Bader, and Fenwick Limited. Whitbread’s career spans different organisations, from her background in technology marketing in the US, her leadership of global non-profits, to her more recent roles with blue-chip corporate boards. She also has more than 20 years’ experience of sustainability-related issues. Whitbread has been CEO of Save the Children and of London First and a non-executive director of BT plc, where she chaired the digital impact and sustainability committee. Whitbread currently chairs the governance and sustainability committee of Compagnie Financière Richemont SA, is on the board of WPP plc and is chair of Travis Perkins plc. Sir Robin Niblett joined the International Advisory Board from the policy institute, Chatham House, where he was chief executive for 15 years. Under his leadership, Chatham House tripled in size, significantly expanding its coverage of international political developments, Brown Advisory said. Sir Robin is a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Futures Council on Geopolitics and served as its chair from 2020 to 2022. He is now a Distinguished Fellow of Chatham House and the Asia Society Policy Institute and a senior advisor to the Center for Strategic & International Studies in Washington DC. He is also senior advisor with Hakluyt, the British strategic advisory firm. He brings deep expertise on relations between Europe, the US and Asia pertinent to both national governments and private institutions. “Their vast combined knowledge of global businesses, markets and the political landscape make Sian, Jasmine and Robin tremendous additions to our International Advisory Board. We are honoured they have decided to join the board, providing among other things invaluable strategic thinking and counsel as we continue to grow and develop our international business,” Logie Fitzwilliams, head of international business and global head of sales at Brown Advisory, said. At the same time, Brown Advisory thanked Simon de Zoete for his “exceptional contributions” during his long tenure as an original member of the firm’s International Advisory Board, founded in 2015. Brown Advisory’s international business has developed significantly over the past few years. It opened offices in Singapore in 2019, Frankfurt in 2022 and Tokyo in 2023, while almost doubling headcount outside the US over the last five years to 85 colleagues.
